NYS Bill A.00258
First conceived by students at West End Secondary School on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Bill A.00258 is designed to offer restaurants in New York State a 10-cent-per-pound tax credit for donating oyster and mollusk shell to organizations that plan to re-use them for marine restoration purposes.
Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal of New York District 67 championed the student's idea and sponsored the Bill. In May 2019, the students of West End Secondary, Billion Oyster Project, and Crave Fishbar went to Albany to spread the word about Bill A.00258 and to participate in a press conference.
Bill A.00258 is in the New York State Assembly committee on Ways & Means awaiting a vote in the 2021 Legislative Session.
